The Rootikals

Selectah Mike [Solo]

More often than not, You can expect to see our lead vocalist, Mike Abang, jamming about on our looper rig. Strategically programmed to deliver the fullest reggae sound in a small compact setup best suited for any occasion.

FULL BAND

While our Full Band is a little harder to see or book, when the stars aline and our schedules line up, we still do live shows. Inquire and let’s see if the full squad can make it!

Duo / TRIo (Acoustic or Loop)

When we’re not playing Full band shows, we have a smaller roster suited for smaller venues or backyard parties. Depending on our availability we can always deliver a full sound through our acoustic set up or our Duo set up accompanied by our Looper.

This video pays special tribute to one of our biggest influences coming out Big Island, Hawaii, Ai Pohaku. In our college days, a set of underground recordings featured this band and through the "oh check dis band out" exchange system, some of the

"rootsy-est" tunes to ever come out of Hawaii were being played all day every day on my sound systems. Before we were The Rootikals, we were called Roots Knight Productions. We'd host an event called Roots Night and that night was dedicated to roots music, underground roots music; and the tunes that were never played on the radio back home were being shared to folks here in Forest Grove and all throughout Portland, Oregon. We prided ourselves then and now in playing songs no one knew.

Aloha! This Root Loops session pays special Tribute to Rootikal Riddim, a band that truly inspired our sound as it stands today and shoot even our band name when we rebranded. Rootikal Riddim was yet another underground roots reggae band from Hawaii that wasn't being played on the radio. They were a band you'd see down at Tropics and brrraaah they would smash. Unlike 'Ai Pohaku (featured in our last video), you can actually find Rootikal Riddim music on iTunes, Spotify, etc. Hope you enjoy them! It's been a blast sharing their tunes over the years here in the Pacific Northwest and we'll continue to shed light on all the bands that paved the way before us.

Aloha fam! I thought that our first video of us jamming should be one that pays tribute to the late great Bob Marley. Though he is one of many artists out of Jamaica, the origin of Roots Reggae Music, to put Reggae music on the map; he was artist who inspired us and so many artists in the tiny state of Hawaii. Stay tuned for our next couple videos from our Root Loops sessions as we'll pay tribute to more of our favorite Artists and feature old and brand new originals from The Rootikals. Thanks for watching!
